Over the Limit is approaching and will take place in less than 11 days. A Fatal 4 Way match has been scheduled for the World Championship which will pit Champion Sheamus against Alberto Del Rio, Chris Jericho, and Randy Orton. I would love to check out some sports betting sites so I could place a nice little wager on this match, but that just can’t happen since well, wrestling is fixed. In any event, it’s still entertaining and fun to throw out some predictions for the pay-per-view and pretend to play the role of the booker.
I think it’s time for Randy Orton to reclaim the Heavyweight Championship. Randy Orton’s last title reign lasted just one month. Orton claimed the World Heavyweight Championship for the third time at SummerSlam 2011 by beating Christian, only to lose the title to Mark Henry the next month at Night of Champions. What a foolish move. Nothing irritates me more than extremely short title runs. It’s great to mix it up and keep the crowd guessing, but Orton should have held the title longer.
You may be surprised to know that Randy Orton’s longest World Heavyweight title reign is just 75 days. His other title reigns lasted 35 and 28 days. Now bear in mind that Randy Orton has had long reigns with the WWE Title, including a 203 day title run in 2007. However, since that time, Orton has never held the WWE or World Heavyweight title for more than 3 months since this time.
I think it’s time for Orton to claim back the title and hold it through SummerSlam. While the WWE will focus on Triple H vs. Brock Lesnar on RAW leading into SummerSlam, WWE should put the title back on their top star on SmackDown. I would then love to see Randy Orton then work a program with Wade Barrett, Ted DiBiase, Drew McIntyre or a new up-and-coming star like Antonio Cessaro or Ryback going into SummerSlam.
