Austin Comments on Great WWE Champions, Triple H’s Interview with O&A

- Embedded below is the audio from ’s recent appearance on the Opie & Anthony show where he talks about the McMahons, his role in WWE and lots more. There is some adult language during the interview so readers beware.

- Author Kevin Sullivan, who wrote the upcoming book on the history of the WWE Title, published the following comments from on his blog. Austin made the comments while speaking with Sullivan during his research for the book. Here’s what Austin said when asked his thoughts on the greatest WWE Champion of all-time:

“There’s no way to name just one. In terms of drawing power and being a marquee name, I’m going to say it’s a tie between Stone Cold and Hogan. Hogan was the organization back in the ’80s, and I would say Stone Cold had the same appeal. Damn, I broke attendance records, pay-per-view records, merchandise records …

As far as pure wrestlers go, there are too many bad ass wrestlers, but I would say it’s a tie between and . was bad ass, too. But he was more of an IC Title guy. But Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels told some great stories. It’s a dead tie. They could work circles around Hogan, and also outwork me.

I would say is the greatest World Champion that ever lived. But I don’t equate him with the WWE Title.”

Fair comments from Austin. Maybe the Randy Savage part was a bit of a stretch but thats a fair assessment otherwise.
When compiling lists or information like this, peoples perception of what makes somebody better than somebody else is always going to be different.

He’s right on. Although Savage was more than just an I.C. guy. Come on.

Austin is Wrong abt records and he is no way near drawing the ratings compared to hogan!

dont get me wrong i like austin and not a big fan of either of them but

HULK HOGAN HOLDS THE RECORD OF HIGHEST RATINGS TILL TODAY – 15.1
AUSTIN AT HIS PRIME DREW A RATING OF – 8.3
and that was a six man tag match involving hhh, rock, taker and others!

    8.3 and 15.1 thats a double GUYS!!

HOGAN ALMOST HAD THE ENTIRE NATION CHEERING FOR HIM… !!
ITS A FACT AND NO ONE CAN BEAT THAT RECORD EVER AGAIN!
ITS COZ OF HOGAN THAT ANYONE GAVE TWO-SHITS ABOUT PRO-WRESTLING!

And WTF is that about sucking up to bret hart and hbk ??
Both of them were pushed heavily by the company and not to mention shawn’s backstage power during 1995 – 1997..

Just coz ric flair is 21 times world champ does it make him the best of all time???
bruno sammitino held that title for 3 whole fucking years!!

I had put the rock and Triple h in the top if someone asked me…
because this is pro-wrestling a show business, mic skills is very essential and none of the guys he mentioned had great mic skills!

The rock , HHH had everything charisma, ability and mic skills !
both of them were great workers ..
i know a lot of people would disagree with hhh as one of the best wwe champ but hate him or love him – he is awesome!
He can be a badass heel getting booed and also one of the funniest guy on mic at the same time!
None of the champs had that kinda talent ! he is deserving!!
