WWE Monday Night RAW Report for 6/1/2009

– Tonight’s WWE RAW kicks off with WWE Champion Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes inside a steel cage in the ring as Voices finishes playing. The crowd is booing like crazy. Orton talks about his match with Batista this Sunday at Extreme Rules inside a cage. Orton says there are no rules and he can do whatever he wants.

Orton says he talked to Vickie Guerrero earlier and Batista will compete in a steel cage match tonight. Orton says if the coin lands on heads, it’s Cody Rhodes and tails it’s Ted DiBiase. He flips the coin and it lands on heads. So we’ve got Batista vs. Cody Rhodes in a steel cage tonight. Orton tells Cody he knows what to do tonight. Cody talks about his father was in some of the best cage matches of all-time and says they’re in his blood. Orton walks out of the cage door and says this is an image people will be seeing – him walking out of the cage as WWE Champion. The music hits and out comes WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair.

Flair starts whoo’in and going nuts on the ramp. He says he’s out here to tell Randy Orton what he’s going to do to him tonight. Orton reminds him he’s retired. Flair says he’s going to come out here every week and taunt Orton until he agrees to fight him one on one. Flair calls him a punk about 10 times. Flair says he is not challenging Orton to a match, he is calling him out to a fight in the parking lot later tonight. Flair says the last man walking will be the winner. Flair taunts Orton some more. The crowd starts chanting “punk” now. Orton accepts Flair’s challenge. Orton says Flair won’t be able to remember this night when it’s over. Voices starts playing as Orton looks on at Flair from ringside. We go to commercial.

Steel Cage Match: Cody Rhodes vs. Batista

Back from commercial and they are doing the cage match already. Cody Rhodes is in the cage as Lilian Garcia does introductions. Out next is the #1 contender to the WWE Title, Batista. The crowd chants his name before he comes out to a big pop. The bell rings and we’re ready to go.

Batista backs Cody in the corner first and he grabs at the door. Cody tries to climb out of the cage early. Batista blocks a DDT attempt and drops Cody. Batista slams Cody into the cage by the back of his head and puts the boot to his head on the cage walls. Batista with shoulder thrusts in the corner now. Batista hits a spear in mid-air.

Randy Orton comes walking down the ramp and watches the match. Batista lifts Cody and slams him on his back right infront of Orton. Batista taunts Orton from inside the cage. Cody tries to escape but can’t. Batista tries to Batista Bomb him from the top rope and he does. Batista covers Cody for the pinfall and the win, all while taunting Randy Orton from inside the cage.

Winner: Batista

– Vickie and Chavo Guerrero are backstage with Big Show. Vickie talks about the tag match against John Cena and a mystery partner tonight. Big Show isn’t happy with having to tag with The Miz tonight. Vickie has a bag full of WWE names. Show puts his hand in the bag and pulls out Chavo Guerrero’s name. Chavo will be Cena’s partner. Show says he is going to hurt Cena tonight and if Chavo gets in his way, he will hurt him too. Show walks off as we go back to commercial.

Kelly Kelly and Mickie James vs. Maryse and Beth Phoenix

Back from the break and Kelly Kelly comes out first for the next match. Out next is her partner Mickie James followed by their opponents, WWE Divas Champion Maryse and Beth Phoenix, with Rosa Mendez. The bell rings and Mickie smacks at Maryse, sending her to the floor. Maryse just laughs. Beth and Mickie start off.

Mickie hits a few dropkicks and a 2 count on Beth. Mickie tags in Kelly Kelly. Beth lifts Kelly over her head but she gets out of it. Kelly with a hurrancanrana and a 2 count. Beth catches her and drops her back over her knee. Beth with a 2 count. Maryse comes in and knocks Kelly down. Maryse taunts some and locks her chinlock move on Kelly. Kelly slides out and nails an enziguri kick and goes for a count but her shoulders weren’t down. Beth comes in but Mickie nails the Press off the top rope. Rosa gets on the apron and distracts the ref. Beth decks Mickie to the floor. Kelly takes out Beth. Kelly turns around to a DDT from Maryse for the pinfall and the win.

Winners: Beth Phoenix and Maryse

– Still to come tonight, John Cena and Chavo Guerrero vs. Big Show and The Miz, MVP vs. Kofi Kingston and Ric Flair vs. Randy Orton in a “Fight to the Finish.” We go back to commercial.

Carlito and Primo Colon vs. William Regal and Matt Hardy

We get a replay from Superstars last week before the WWE Unified Tag Team Champions make their way to the ring first. Out next is William Regal followed by his partner Matt Hardy. Hardy is still rocking his cast.

Cole says that if Hardy and Regal win, they will receive a future tag title shot. Primo and Regal start the match off. Regal takes Primo down first and they do some nice back and forth action. Primo decks Matt off the apron but Regal knocks him down and starts stomping. Matt comes in and drops Primo with a back elbow and a 2 count. Matt takes Primo to the corner and works him over.

Regal comes back in and they try a double team but have communication problems. 2 count by Regal on Primo. Regal keeps control of Primo. Big uppercut and a left by Regal for another 2 count. Regal tags in Matt and thrusts Primo in the corner. Matt works on Primo in the corner now. Regal gets tagged in again. Primo tries to fight him off but gets suplexed. Matt tags himself in and gets a 2 count. Hardy drops leg drops on Primo but misses the last one. Regal and Carlito come in at the same time. Carlito with a dropkick off the ropes and a slam on Regal. Big leg drop from Carlito. Carlito hits a huge springboard elbow on Regal for a 2 count.

Hardy comes in and decks Primo. Hardy goes to use his cast but accidentally hits Regal. Carlito decks Hardy off the apron and nails the Backstabber for the pinfall and the win on Regal.

Winners: Carlito and Primo Colon

– After the match, Hardy and Regal have words in the ring. We go back to commercial break.

– Back from the break and Ric Flair is out in the parking area checking things out. Batista walks up. Flair tells him don’t even start. Flair says he would never retire, but he had to retire. Flair says he misses wrestling so much and wakes up every morning wanting to be Ric flair one more time. Batista calls him the man. Flair says if he says that one more time he’s going to vomit. Flair tells Batista to let Ric Flair be Ric Flair one more time. Flair promises he is going to make Batista proud and wear Orton out tonight. They embrace and that’s it.

– William Regal and Matt Hardy are backstage with Vickie Guerrero and upset. They have a plan – for her to face Santino Marella tonight on RAW. She don’t like it but Regal tries to talk her into it – calling it a warm-up match. Hardy whispers something in her ear and suddenly she likes the idea.

– Chavo Guerrero is in the back warming up. John Cena walks up to him. Chavo tries to be cool with Cena but Cena just stares and walks off.

The Miz and Big Show vs. John Cena and Chavo Guerrero

The Miz comes out first with a mic and says he is 6-0 against the sell-out brown noser John Cena. Miz says Cena has won the hearts of millions of nine year olds and compares him to Hannah Montana. The Miz says he is what a real winner looks like. He says he’s awesome and will go 7-0. We go to commercial.

Back from the break and out comes Miz’s partner Big Show. Chavo Guerrero is out next followed by his tag team partner John Cena, to a big pop. Show yells at Miz and tells him to get out of the ring. Cena and Show start the match off. Cena ducks an attack and starts nailing Show. Show picks him up and nails a big side slam. Show with big body shots on Cena and a big scoop slam.

Cena gets sent to the floor. Miz works him over but Show tells him to stop and says they’re not a tag team. Back in the ring now and Show continues the assault. 2 count by Show. Show drops big legs on Cena. Miz tags himself in and it pisses Show off. Show goes outside, Miz runs in the ring for a 2 count on Cena. Miz works over Cena in the corner now with stomps and punches. Cena fights back and drops Miz and nails a big shoulder, followed by another. Cena hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle on Chavo.

Show tags himself in as Miz gets hit with the former FU but Cena doesn’t see it. Show comes in and chokeslams Cena but the ref didn’t see his tag to Miz. Show begs for the tag but Miz taunts Show. Show clocks Miz and knocks him out. Chavo is tagged in and comes running in for the pinfall on Miz.

Winners: John Cena and Chavo Guerrero

After the match, Chavo tries celebrating with Cena. Cena lifts him up and drops him with the Attitude Adjuster. Cena and Show stare off. They start brawling in the ring. Cena comes off the top rope but Show decks him in mid-air with a big right hand. Show puts his chinlock move he’s been using on Cena and leaves him lay on the mat. We go to replays.

– Back from the break and Josh Matthews is backstage with MVP and Kofi Kingston. Josh starts talking and MVP cuts him off. MVP says Kofi earned a title shot last week and that impressed him. Kofi says MVP has impressed him also. Matthews asks who will leave the US Champion tonight and they both say they will. Things get a little heated now as Kofi brings up MVP on The View. They’re face to face as we go back to Michael Cole to hype the match.

WWE United States Championship Match: Kofi Kingston vs. MVP

Lilian Garcia does the ring introductions as the challenger Kofi Kingston comes out first. MVP is out next for his title defense. They lock up and test each other out. They lock back up and MVP takes control. They do some nice back and forth action here.

Kofi hits a backslide for a 2 count. MVP gets a quick 2 count. Kofi hits a big dropkick and knocks MVP down and back into the corner. Kofi goes boom boom as we go back to the commercial.

Back from the break and MVP has Kofi down on the mat. Kofi fights out of the hold with back elbows. They run the ropes and Kofi takes MVP down with an elbow. Kofi leaps in the corner but MVP catches him on his shoulders. Kofi rolls MVP up for a close 2 count. MVP hits a big running kick to the face on Kofi for another close 2 count. MVP goes for his Ballin’ elbow drop but only gets a 2 count.

Kofi goes to the top but MVP catches him. They go to the mat with a superplex from MVP and MVP gets another near fall. Kofi rolls MVP up for another 2 count. MVP gets one of his own. Lots of reversals and 2 counts here. They collide and both men go down. They get to their feet at the 8 count and trade shots. Kofi bounces off the rope with his head but gets German suplexed by MVP for a 2 count. Kofi hits an insane move, dropping MVP on his head for another 2 count.

Kofi goes for the win but MVP counters. MVP goes for a Playmaker but Kofi counters. Kofi misses the big spin kick. They go back and forth on close falls before Kofi gets the roll-up for the win.

Winner and New WWE United States Champion: Kofi Kingston

After the match, MVP brings the US Title belt in the ring and hands it to Kofi. Cole calls this passing the torch. Kofi celebrates in the ring as MVP looks on from the ramp.

– Backstage we see Randy Orton getting ready. Ted DiBiase asks him why he’s fighting Ric Flair tonight.. Ted tells Randy anything can happen, even by accident. Ted seems to be trying to talk Orton out of fighting Flair in the parking lot tonight. Ted doubts Orton’s abilities and walks off.

Vickie Guerrero vs. Santino Marella

Lilian Garcia introduces the next match as Miss WrestleMania Vickie Guerrero walks to the ring carrying two buckets of hog slop. We go to commercial.

Back from commercial and Santino Marella makes his way to the ring. This match starts with Santino picking up one of the buckets of slop. He backs Vickie into the corner with it. William Regal and Matt Hardy rush the ring. Santino turns around and slings the slop all over the place. The bucket hits the camera and slop hits everyone around. This pisses Regal and Hardy off. They beat him down. Hardy uses his cast. Hardy and Regal leave Santino laying as Vickie stands over him and laughs. She picks up the other bucket of slop, laughing like a nut. Vickie dumps the slop on Santino’s lower region before dumping the rest on his face and elsewhere. Vickie waves to the crowd with her foot on Santino’s chest as she just laughs some more.

– We see Ric Flair out in the parking area getting ready for his fight with Randy Orton tonight. We cut to a Macho Man DVD commercial before going back to break.

– Back from commercial and Jerry Lawler is in the ring with Michael Cole. They rundown the card for this Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view. The cage lowers over Cole and Lawler as they hype Orton vs. Batista this Sunday. Randy Orton is shown walking around in the back as we go to commercial.

– Back from the break and Randy Orton is walking around in the parking area. Ric Flair attacks out of nowhere and knocks Orton into a door. Flair works over Orton. Orton fights back and they trade shots through the parking area. Flair stomps on Orton now and puts his shoe in his throat. Orton throws Flair into a stack of cases.

Flair puts Orton onto a rolling case and rolls him into a table. Flair with big chops on Orton now. They fight back in towards the arena backstage and Orton takes control now. The lighting is bad and you can’t see too good. They fight out into the arena where the fans can see them now. Orton is still in control, stomping on Flair. Orton stomps on Flair’s head. Orton throws Flair up on the stage and keeps stomping away.

Orton mounts Flair now and rocks him with right hands. Orton with more kicks to Flair as he tries to get to his feet. Orton tries to throw Flair off the stage. Flair kicks back and hits Orton below the belt. Flair kicks and stomps away at Orton now. Flair chops Orton down the ramp and towards the ring. Flair taunts Orton as he rocks him with right hands. Orton just grabs at Flair’s legs. More chops from Flair. They make it down at ringside now. The cage is still lowered over the ring from Cole and Lawler’s segment. Flair with more rights and chops on Orton.

There’s blood all over Flair as Orton is busted open. Flair tears apart the announcers table. Flair puts Orton on top of the table and goes to work with rights and chops. Flair climbs on top of the table and stomps on Orton’s legs. Still can’t tell if Flair is busted open also. Flair locks on the Figure Four on top of the table. DiBiase and Rhodes run down and attack Flair, breaking the hold.

Ted and Cody drag Flair inside the steel cage, stomping and punching away. Double suplex by Rhodes and DiBiase on Flair. They beat Flair down some more as Orton makes his way into the cage. Orton tells Cody and Ted to leave the cage and lock the door. Orton is locked inside the cage with Flair. Orton stomps away at Flair. Batista comes running down and DiBiase and Rhodes flee through the crowd. Batista is pissed as he shakes the cage and yells at Orton.

Batista starts climbing the cage as Flair gets to his feet. Orton drops Flair with an RKO. Batista is going nuts on the outside. Why did he stop climbing the cage? Orton stares at Batista as he gets ready for the punt kick. Orton goes for the punt kick on Flair but it’s botched. Orton barely connects on Flair’s head but they sell it anyway. Orton gets face to face with Batista through the cage. Batista tells Orton he’s going to tear him apart as RAW goes off the air.
