WWE RAW Results – April 20, 2009

Monday, April 20th, 2009

– Tonight’s WWE RAW kicks off taped from London, England with in the ring. Jericho says he has felt like a castaway for the past year surrounded by losers on RAW. Now this has changed as he’s been sent to SmackDown and this is his final night on RAW, ever. Jericho says he is going to better things and RAW will take a turn for the worse without him. ’s music plays and he comes out to the ring.

Steamboat puts over the fans and thanks Chris Jericho for bringing back a moment where he got to compete again and feel proud about everything. Steamboat talks about wrestling on RAW and , saying it wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for Jericho. Steamboat thanks him again and Jericho says hold up. Jericho puts Steamboat down and says nobody cares about him. The crowd starts chanting you still got it and Jericho says he doesn’t have it. Jericho says he wants Steamboat in a singles match at . Jericho asks him if he accepts and out comes to a big pop.

Jericho tells Cena to stop before he even stops. Jericho goes on and says his last night on RAW, will be a walk out on John Cena. Jericho exits the ring and heads to the back. Steamboat takes the mic and accepts Jericho’s challenge. Cena then takes the mic and says he came out here not to stand up for Steamboat, but to give him a message. Cena says Vickie Guerrero won’t be here tonight but sent word that won’t be competing tonight but he, Cena must compete tonight. Cena informs Jericho he will face him tonight on RAW. Cena’s music hits and Jericho’s back is still turned as Cole and Lawler hype RAW for tonight.

– Back from commercial and is in the ring. He says he has officially been drafted to RAW and thanks Vickie Guerrero. He says he is going to prove to her that not only can he push her wheelchair around, he can push around anyone on RAW and says bring it on. Out comes .

Batista vs. Chavo Guerrero

Batista makes way to the ring as Lilian does introductions to a big pop. The bell rings and Chavo stares down Batista. Chavo rushes Batista but gets caught in a big Batista Bomb. The match is over in seconds as Batista gets the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Batista

– After the match, Chavo gets on the mic and apologizes to Vickie Guerrero on the mic. He says this will never happen again and that he wasn’t even ready. Batista walks back to the ring, kicks Chavo in the gut and drops him with another Batista Bomb before heading to the back.

– Back from commercial and we see some of the London scenery before seeing give props backstage to Batista for his match. Batista says everything is cool from last week but Shane says he didn’t appreciate what Batista did and Batista says he doesn’t appreciate what Shane did. Shane says they’re good as long as they keep focus on Backlash and walk off smiling at each other.


Kane makes his way to the ring first. Out next is the 2009 Money in the Bank winner CM Punk. Both men are about to go to SmackDown.

The match starts and they go at it. Punk goes to the top but Kane catches him with a big right hand in mid-air for a 2 count. Low dropkick by Kane for another 2 count. Kane continues to dominate and hits a big side slam and readies for the chokeslam. Punk gets up and kicks him in the head and back into the corner. Running knee by Punk. Kane blocks the bulldog but runs into a boot. Punk comes off the top for another 2 count. Punk goes for the GTS but can’t lift him. Kane drops Punk with a big boot and calls for the chokeslam again. Punk slides out of it with a sloppy DDT into a pinfall for the win. This is the part they had to re-tape at the tapings earlier. They ended up re-shooting Punk’s botch, the music and everything.

Winner: CM Punk

– Back from commercial and is in the ring. He says he is sorry that his sister Santina has to kiss on SmackDown. Santino asks Santina to come out. Her entrance video plays and we see a pre-recorded video of Santina. She tells Santino that she can’t come and kiss Khali. Santino asks why not. She has blisters on her lip and says she is in the best country, Italy. The crowd boo’s. The video messes up and starts fast forwarding. Santino freaks out as he’s been exposed. He says his sister loves the Red Bull. Santino keeps talking to Santina on the video. Santino reads a poem about his sister when comes out with Rosa Mendez beside her. Beth says she’s sorry about Santina’s blisters and says she talked to Vickie Guerrero and she’s set aside some time for Backlash this Sunday so Santina will have a chance to kiss Khali once her lip heals. The video starts playing and Santina says that was a great poem. Comedy stuff here. Santino tells Beth he doesn’t like what she’s up to. Melina comes out for a match with Beth.

Beth Phoenix vs. Melina

The WWE Women’s Champion Melina enters the ring for her last match on RAW as we go to commercial break.

Back from commercial and Beth is in control getting a 2 count. Beth dominates the match, overpowering Melina. Beth puts her in a torture rack move. Melina ends up getting the win after Rosa distracts Beth and Melina takes advantage with a nice powerbomb move for the pinfall.

Winner: Melina

– We get a quick backstage segment with and Shane McMahon before going to commercial.

John Cena vs. Chris Jericho

Back from the break and the World Heavyweight Champion John Cena makes his way out to the ring. The music hits and out comes his opponent Chris Jericho.

Jericho controls the match early on and mocks Cena. Cena fires back with rights and lefts but Jericho knocks him back down. 2 count by Jericho. Suplex by Jericho as he continues to control. They trade big rights on each other and the crowd gets into it. Cena takes control and hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle. They end up on the apron and Jricho drives Cena down into the steel steps as we go to commercial.

Back from the break and Jericho gets a 2 count on Cena in the ring. Jericho works over Cena and mocks the crowd. Jericho takes Cena to the corner now and stomps on him. Jericho stands on Cena’s head now. Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho but Cena breaks out of it. Jericho drops Cena for another 2 count. Cena ends up with Jericho on his shoulders and takes him to the top. Jericho slides out and drops Cena with the electric chair move. 2 count by Jericho. Jericho misses the Lionsault. They go back and forth and Jericho hits a Codebreaker out of nowhere. Jericho only gets a 2 count. Cena hits a big counter and drops Jericho but can’t get the win. Cena comes off the top rope but Jericho catches him in the Walls. Cena manages to counter and lock on the STF. Cena pulls him back but Jericho kicks him in the head with an enziguri.

They end up on the top again and Cena goes for a suplex. Jericho fights him off until Edge runs down and pushes them both off the turnbuckle. Edge enters the ring and beats on Cena. Cena gets up and turns around to a big spear from Edge. Edge goes to the floor and grabs two steel chairs. Edge puts one chair under Cena’s head and smacks him with the other. Edge grabs a mic and says the winner in a Last Man Standing match is the man who knocks his opponent out for a count of 10. Edge starts to count to 10 and Cena doesn’t move. Edge says your winner and new World Champion, the Rated R Superstar Edge. Edge heads to the back as we go for another break.


Back from the break and WWE Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio makes his way to the ring in his last match before going to RAW. Out next is his opponent Big Show. The bell rings and Rey goes to work on Show but gets dropped to the mat. Show lifts Rey up and tosses him across the ring.

Rey ends up on the floor before getting back in the ring. He kicks Show’s back into the ropes and hits the 619 on his back. Rey goes for another 619 but Show catches him and just slams him to the mat hard. Show covers Rey for the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Big Show

– Back from the breaks and is backstage with . Cody says guys like Triple H and Batista are time bombs waiting to explode. Ted says everything is nice with the group but it’s not the same when your leader isn’t a… Orton walks up and says isn’t a what, a Champion? Orton goes on and says this Sunday at Backlash, they are going to win. And tonight, he says he is going to beat Triple H and he guarantees it.

No Disqualification Match: Triple H vs.

Out first is the WWE Champion Triple H for tonight’s main event. The Game makes his way to the ring to a nice pop. As Triple H does his entrance, we take another commercial break.

Back from commercial and Randy Orton makes his way to the ring while Triple H awaits him. The bell rings and Orton strikes first on Triple H, backing him into the corner. Triple H turns things around and nails shots of his own. Triple H with a clothesline and Orton rolls to the floor. Triple H comes out and Orton slams him into the fan barrier. Triple H also uses the barrier. They fight on the announcer table and Orton slams Triple H’s head down. Orton gets two trash cans from under the ring and goes to hit HHH with one but gets kicked. Orton counters this time and knocks it from HHH. They go in the ring and Triple H nails rights. Orton gets a 2 count.

Orton runs the ropes and HHH nails a big knee and dumps Orton back out to the floor. Triple H comes down to him through the ropes but gets smacked with the other trash can. We go to commercial.

Back from the break and Orton throws Triple H into the steel steps on the floor. Orton rolls HHH back in the ring and throws the steps into the ring. Orton waits on Triple H to get up and smacks him with the steps, throws them to the floor and gets a 2 count. Orton tries to hit the DDT on the steps but Triple H counters. The Gsme works on Orton with rights in the corner back in the ring now. 2 count by Triple H. HHH goes to use the trash can but Orton kicks him in the face. Triple H nails a big spine buster into the trash can but only gets a 2 count. HHH brings a chair into the ring and hits Orton in the gut and over the back with it. Triple H goes to hit Orton in the head with it but Orton hits him in the gut and drops a big DDT. Orton misses the punt kick and Triple H takes his knee out. Triple H slams the leg into the ring post. HHH locks on the figure four and Orton finally breaks it and rolls to the floor. Triple H brings the chair back in and puts Orton’s leg in between it. Rhodes and DiBiase rush the ring and beat Triple H down. Shane McMahon runs down and lays out DiBiase and then Rhodes. DiBiase dumps Shane to the floor. Legacy beat Triple H back down as Batista runs down. He clotheslines DiBiase and Rhodes then spears Orton. Batista goes to spear Cody but Cody ducks and he nails Shane. Batista throws Ted to the floor but Cody sends Batista to the floor. Triple H sends Cody to the floor. Triple H turns around to a big RKO from Randy Orton to get the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Randy Orton

– After the match, Legacy heads to the back as we cut to replays. Triple H and Batista regroup in the ring and help Shane to his feet. The two teams stare each other down as RAW goes off the air.
