ECW on Sci-Fi Report
February 24th, 2009
Taped in Nashville, TN
Report by Jason Powell

[Q1] The show opened with a video previewing the vs. Christian main event… The opening montage aired… Todd Grisham and introduced the show and hyped the main event…

1. (w/Tony Atlas) pinned D.J. Gabriel (w/) in 3:05. Gabriel and Alicia were already in the ring, so we didn’t get to see their full “dancing fools” entrance routine. I would pay money to see Henry and Atlas impersonate that routine. Striker cracked that Henry vs. Gabriel is the equivalent of Suge Knight vs. one of the Jonas Brothers.

The lovely Alicia pounded on the mat for no particular reason throughout the match, which was more annoying than anything. The crowd eventually cheered along with her for a few seconds. Late in the match, Gabriel dove off the top rope, but Henry caught him and hit the World’s Strongest Slam for the clean win… [C]

Another video aired to trumpet his pending return to ECW…

2. (w/Natalya) defeated Matt Boyce in 2:25. Striker said it looked like Kidd was going against the “third lost Mulkey brother” in Boyce. Hilarious. Kidd got the bulk of the offense and hit a great spinning kick followed by the springboard elbow drop for the clean pin.

[Q2] The announcers hyped Swagger vs. Christian for later in the show… [C] Highlights aired of the and feud…

2. defeated Paul Burchill (w/Katie Lea) in 3:40. At 3:00, Dreamer locked Burchill in the tree of woe. He went for the slide kick, but Katie pulled Paul out of the way. Boogeyman’s music played and he tried to pull Katie under the ring. Meanwhile, Dreamer DDT’d Burchill and scored the pin…

[Q3] A shot aired of Christian walking backstage. The announcers said his title match was coming up next… [C] Ring introductions took place for the main event match…

3. Jack Swagger defeated Christian to retain the ECW Title in 20:40. After some back and forth action, Swagger charged at Chrsitian, who avoided him and pulled the rope down, causing Swagger to tumble to the floor. Christian ran toward the corner and used the second rope as a springboard to leap onto Swagger on the floor. Cool spot. [C]

[Q4] After the break, Swagger targeted Christian’s arm with various holds and moves. Swagger showed off his strength by picking up Christian and ramming him into the turnbuckles, hitting a shoulder breaker, and slamming him to the mat as the show cut to another commercial break. [C]

Christian went for a top rope headbutt, but Swagger avoided the it. A short time later, Christian hit a leg sweep, but Swagger kicked out. Christian continued to sell an arm injury. Swagger stood up and hit a belly-to-belly suplex. Striker noted that Christian used his right arm when he kicked out rather than his injured left arm.

Swagger went for a second rope splash, but Christian lifted his legs. Christian caught Swagger in another good near fall. Christian went to the ropes. Swagger ran over and caught him in style. Christian fought him off and hit the top rope headbutt for a great near fall.

Later, Christian ran Swagger into the corner and went for the Unprettier, but he stopped short of hitting the move and clutched his arm in pain. Swagger capitalized by hitting the gut-wrench powerbomb for the win…[Q1] The show opened with a video previewing the Jack Swagger vs. Christian main event… The opening montage aired… Todd Grisham and Matt Striker introduced the show and hyped the main event…
