Update on the Chris Jericho Fan Incident from Saturday

– WWE has posted the following on their website regarding the incident with the title “ Assaulted.” Here’s what they wrote:

After leaving a live event in Victoria, British Columbia on Saturday evening, Chris Jericho’s car was attacked by a mob when he was stopped at a stop sign. Unable to proceed, Chris Jericho exited his car to ask the crowd to clear a path so he could continue through the intersection. A man and a woman physically and verbally assaulted Mr. Jericho.

Arena and WWE security arrived to establish enough order to allow Mr. Jericho to re-enter his vehicle and depart. The local police arrived minutes later.

Mr. Jericho was unharmed in the incident. The WWE is working with local authorities who are investigating the incident to identify the man and woman who fled the scene.

– Thanks to Richard Trionfo for this: On Fox News this morning, there was a discussion of the Chris Jericho incident in Canada. The host described the situation before they showed the video footage and discussed the crowd as an ‘angry mob’ and then posed the question of who was at fault. There were two guests on the show, one former Federal prosecutor and a defense attorney. The prosecutor took the position that Jericho was at fault and should be charged since words alone are not enough to justify Jericho’s actions. He says that it does not matter if Jericho is a celebrity and wrestler. He also suggests that Jericho would not claim to be afraid of a twenty-year old woman. The host brings up the issue of whether or not someone spit at Jericho. The defense attorney points out how security did nothing and brings up the issues of provocation and the comments made by the fans. He thinks that Jericho was acting reasonably. The host then brings up how Jericho was forced to stop by a fan jumping in front of his vehicle and she mentions Jericho’s comments during the show that might have instigated the situation. The prosecutor says that Jericho had no justification and he had alternative means. He focuses on the situation with Jericho and the woman. He talks about how wrestling promotes this atmosphere and then suggests that you cannot change the situation when things go too far. At the end of the segment, the host said that she is on Jericho’s side in this matter and the woman had no right doing what she did.
