- The dark match before tonight’s Royal Rumble saw Jimmy Wang Yang defeat Paul Burchill.

- The big news coming out of tonight’s pay-per-view is Randy Orton getting the World Heavyweight Title shot at WrestleMania 25 by winning the Rumble match and Edge becoming the new WWE Champion after pinning Jeff Hardy with the help of Matt Hardy. Vickie Guerrero announced before the match that it would be a “No DQ” match. Matt came down and hit Jeff with a chair, letting Edge get the pin. As noted earlier this evening, backstage talk at the show was that they are now building to Hardy vs. Hardy at WrestleMania 25.
