WWE RAW Results – December 8, 2008

Monday, December 8th, 2008

– Tonight’s three-hour edition of WWE Monday Night RAW kicks off with clips from 2008 of various matches as we’re welcomed to the 2008 WWE Slammy Awards. We cut to the normal RAW opening video and then to the arena where the pyro explodes and Michael Cole welcomes us to RAW in Philadelphia, PA.

– The WWE announcing teams are standing at ringside. Lilian Garcia introduces Maria and Festus who come to the stage to present the first Slammy Award for the night. The 2008 Tag Team of the Year is introduced by Maria. Festus goes to speak but doesn’t. The nominees are & Primo, Morrison & Miz, Rhodes & DiBiase and Cryme Tyme.

Miz and Morrison are announced as the winners. They come out acting crazy. Miz tells Maria to kiss his hand and taunts Festus. They keep messing with Festus as he and Maria leave. Morrison thanks Chuck Norris, his family and others. Miz declares they are the best tag team of this century. Good segment.

IC Title Tournament Match: vs. CM Punk

Morrison makes his way down to the ring for this IC Title tournament match. Out next is his old ECW rival, CM Punk.

Punk and Morrison lock up and go to the mat and Punk gets a quick 2 count. Morrison with a 2 count of his own. They trade pins again and go back and forth with each other. Punk goes for the GTS early but Morrison slides out. Punk with a kick to the face and a 2 count. Morrison dropkicks Punk and pulls him to the floor. Punk hits 2 big knees on the floor and a crossbody off the apron onto Morrison. We go to commercial.

Back from commercial and we’re back in the ring as Morrison works over Punk’s ankle. Morrison goes to the top but Punk meets him. Punk nails a version of a hurrancanrana off the top and gets a 2 count on Morrison. Morrison with a backbreaker and russian leg sweep for a 2 count.

Punk thrusts Morrison in the corner now. Morrison counters a big kick and takes Punk down for a close 2 count. Morrison misses his kick off the ropes and Punk powerslams him for a 2 count. Punk with a flying forearm and another 2 count on Morrison. We see Regal and Layla watching in the back. Punk goes for the GTS but Morrison turns it into a rollup for a very close 2 count. They get up and Punk drops him with a kick to the head. Punk nails the GTS this time for the pinfall and the win.

Winner: CM Punk

– We cut to a video package of ’s match with on last week’s RAW and Chris Jericho’s interference in the match and the attack from Jericho, Orton, Rhodes and that closed out RAW.

– Todd Grisham is backstage with John Cena. Cena says hustle, loyalty and respect; three words Chris Jericho thinks no longer exists. Cena mocks Jericho’s promo on his son from last week’s RAW, talking about his dog being a fan of RAW. Cena says tonight he will take care of business and fight Chris Jericho, regardless of the matches. He tells Jericho he is coming to get him.

– Back from commercial and Lilian introduces with Cryme Tyme to announce the Finishing Move of the Year Award. They all three say YO about 20 times and talk about the Stone Cold Stunner, Figure 4, Sharpshooter and Rock Bottom. The nominees are Orton’s RKO, Bourne’s Shooting Star Press, Undertaker’s Hell’s Gate and ’s KO Punch. Candice announces the winner but they can’t find the Slammy Award. Cryme Tyme passes it around before giving it to Candice. Cryme Tyme’s music hits and they leave the stage. The winner is ’s Shooting Star Press. Candice announces Evan can’t be here tonight due to injury but she wants to accept the Slammy for him. Out comes Mike Knox.

Knox comes out and just gets in Candice’s face. He takes Bourne’s Slammy Award from her and just stares out at the crowd.

’s music hits and out he comes with a microphone in hand. Orton says you would think winning the main event match and being WWE Champion would be impressive, but he’s not nominated for Superstar of the Year. Orton says he is being shown a lack of respect but he’s used to it. He brings up Evolution. Orton says tonight Batista and Triple H are supposed to compete but he has a better idea. Orton says , Manu and himself are challenging Batista and Triple H to a 2-on-3 Handicap Match for tonight. Orton says tonight, the legacy is born. His music hits and that’s it.

MVP vs. MVC

Back from commercial and MVP is in the ring. He says the whole losing streak thing ends tonight. MVP calls out MLB star Jimmy Rollins who is in the crowd, calling him and the Philadelphia Phillies a fluke. MVP calls out the Phillies and the city of Philadelphia. MVP’s music hits and out comes….. MVC! It’s Charlie Haas as MVP. Most Valuable Charlie! Great stuff!

They go to lock up and Haas backs in the corner, mocking MVP. MVP with an elbow to Haas and he starts working Haas over in the corner. Neck breaker by MVP gets a 2 count. MVP mounts Haas and hits him with right hands. Another 2 count by MVP. MVP works on Haas’ arm now, keeping him on the mat.

MVP jabs Haas in the throat and hits the face buster. MVP nails his signature elbow drop but only gets a 2 count. MVP tosses Haas to the outside and follows. MVP drops Haas over the fan barrier and taunts Jimmy Rollins some more. MVP gets back in the ring and Haas lays him out with two big kicks to the face. Haas with a series of punches and a body slam. Haas mocks MVP some more and nails MVP’s elbow but MVP puts his knees up and counters. MVP goes for his big boot in the corner but Haas ducks and rolls him up for the pinfall and the win.

Winner: MVC (Charlie Haas)

– Back from commercial and Lilian Garcia introduces Tiffany and ECW Champion Matt Hardy to introduce the Most Extreme Moment of 2008. The Slammy Award goes to Jeff Hardy for his dive off the top of the RAW set onto Randy Orton. Jeff comes out to a huge pop and hugs his brother Matt and Tiffany. Hardy talks some and says he will leave as WWE Champion.

Jeff Hardy vs. Chris Jericho

Hardy’s music keeps playing and he makes his way to the ring for this singles match with Chris Jericho. Jericho’s music blasts and the former World Champion is out next.

We take a quick commercial break and when we come back Hardy is brawling in the corner with Jericho. Jericho fights back and drops Hardy with a right. Back drop by Jericho for a 2 count. Hardy with a big knee but Jericho tries to dump him to the floor. Jericho with a springboard dropkick, sending Hardy into the fan barrier. Cole, Lawler and Ross are calling this one.

Hardy gets back in the ring at the 8 count and Jericho starts stomping on him. Jericho takes Hardy down with a neck hold trying to put him out. They get to their feet and Hardy fights back. Both men go down. Back on their feet again and Hardy hits a forearm and leg drop between the legs. Hardy with a lariat and a 2 count. Hardy with a front suplex and he goes to the top. Jericho knocks him from the top and they fight on the turnbuckle. Jericho goes to the mat but Hardy misses the Swanton. Jericho hits the Lionsault for a 2 count. Jericho goes for the Walls of Jericho but Hardy counters and kicks him off. Jericho tries for the Walls again but Hardy rolls it into a 2 count.

Hardy kicks Jericho in the face and hits the dropkick in the corner. Hardy with a Whisper in the Wind for a close 2 count. Hardy goes for the Twist of Fate but Jericho turns it into a Codebreaker for the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Chris Jericho

After the match Jericho makes his exit, looking behind his back as if expecting John Cena to attack.

– Backstage we see Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Manu walk out of Stephanie McMahon’s dressing room. All three stop and look at each other before walking off. Back to commercial.

– Back from commercial and Lilian Garcia introduces Kelly Kelly and Kane as the presenters for the next Slammy Award. Kelly is out first followed by Kane and his pyro. The nominees for Couple of the Year are Beth & Santino, & Vickie, Finlay & and Regal & Layla. The winners are Edge and Vickie Guerrero. Vickie comes out to accept the Slammy. EXCUSE ME, EXCUSE ME! Good stuff from WWE’s best heel. The crowd is going insane.Vickie accepts on behalf of her husband Edge. She says we did it baby and walks off. ’s music hits and out he comes with .

Santino takes the mic and says you have got to be kidding. He says Vickie and Edge do not deserve the Slammy. Santino says Vickie is like the Cougar of the Year. Santino says they’ve challenged any other couples to a match tonight. Santino and Beth head to the ring.

Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella vs. Finlay and Hornswoggle

We take a quick break and come back to Santino and Beth waiting in the ring. Hornswoggle’s music hits and out he and Finlay come for this tag team match. We get some comedy before the match begins. Beth slaps Finlay. Finlay slaps Santino and he rolls to the floor.

Beth tells Santino to get his crap together. The bells rings and it’s Santino and Finlay starting things off. Finlay decks Santino and drops him. Finlay with a big shoulder thrust in the corner. Finlay with a big atomic drop and a tag to Hornswoggle. Santino is on his knees when Horny comes in. Hornswoggle DDT’s Santino and climbs the top. Tadpole splash for the pinfall and the win!

Winners: Finlay and Hornswoggle

– Beth is tending to Santino in the ring as Melina and Teddy Long come out to introduce the Slammy Award for Diva of the Year. Teddy and Melina dance a little before getting to the nominees. The nominees are Beth Phoenix, , Kelly Kelly and Michelle McCool. The Slammy goes to Beth Phoenix, who still is in the ring with Santino in her arms. Beth drops Santino and runs to the stage to take her Slammy. Beth and Melina trade looks as she takes her award. Beth takes the award on behalf of all dominant Divas across th world.

Beth pushes Melina as her music plays. Melina pulls back and decks her with forearms. Beth ends up on the ground and somehow she hits Santino below the belt. Santino starts holding himself and taking high pitched as Beth tends to him some more.

– Michael Cole announces that the Batista vs. Triple H singles match planned for tonight has been changed to Batista and Triple H vs. Cody Rhodes, Manu and Randy Orton. Back to commercial.

– Back from commercial and Joey Styles comes out with to announce the OMG Moment of 2008. Styles gets an ECW chant from the Philly crowd. talks about the word and gets Styles to yell his trademark “OH MY GOD!”And the Slammy Award goes to CM Punk for cashing in Money in the Bank to win the World Heavyweight Championship. Punk comes out and talks about everything he’s done this year. Punk thanks Batista for the assist and Edge for being in the right place at the time then rattles off a long list of names. He says hold on, goes to the back and brings out Joey Styles. Punk says that before the year is over you will have more moments from that make you say… He tries to get Styles to yell it. Styles yells OH MY GOD one more time.

IC Title Tournament Match: Kofi Kingston vs. Rey Mysterio

One-half of the WWE Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston is out first followed by Rey Mysterio to a huge pop. The winner of this match faces CM Punk at Armageddon. Rey’s arm is bandaged up.

Rey and Kofi go back and forth to start the match until Rey takes him down with a hurrancanrana and a leg sweep for a quick count. Kofi lift Rey in the air off the ropes and drops him for a 2 count. We see Regal and Layla watcing from the back. Kofi locks Rey’s arm into a submission.

Rey gets out of the hold and they go at it on the mat. Back on their feet and Rey trips him into the rope for the 619. Kofi gets up and kicks Rey in mid-air for a 2 count. Rey catches Kofi in the face with a boot and takes him down to the mat to dropkick him in the face. 2 count by Rey. They go back and forth some more. Kofi misses a cross body off the top. Rey rolls Kofi up out of nowhere for the pinfall and the win.

Winner: Rey Mysterio

– Back from commercial and Lilian introduces Eve Torres and Mr. Kennedy to announce the winner of Match of the Year. Kennedy puts over how sexy Eve is. Kennedy brings a mic down from the sky and yells his name into it, then has Eve yell his name. The Slammy winner for Match of the Year is vs. Ric Flair at WrestleMania 24. HBK comes out to accept the Slammy. HBK says that match will always hold a very special place in his heart. HBK puts over Flair and says he knows he is so watching and he does love him. JBL comes out.

JBL comes out and takes the Slammy. He accepts the award on behalf of Shawn Michaels and talks about his match with John Cena at . HBK just looks down at the ground. JBL walks off with the Slammy and leaves HBK looking stupid and fumbling with his hands. We go to commercial.

Batista and Triple H vs. Randy Orton, Cody Rhodes and Manu

Back from commercial and Batista comes to the ring first. Out next is his partner, the former WWE Champion Triple H for this 2-on-3 Handicap match. and Tazz join Cole and Lawler for this one. Out next is Randy Orton with his partners Cody Rhodes and Manu.

Triple H and Cody start the match off. Batista comes right in off a tag and goes to work on Cody in the corner with shoulder thrusts. Big shoulder by Batista and a kick to the face. Triple H comes back in and they double team Cody. Manu comes in and gets decked by both Batista and Triple H and thrown over to the floor with Cody. Orton comes from behind on both men but they see him and he ducks to the floor. Back to commercial.

Back from commercial and Orton is stomping on Triple H in the ring. 2 count by Orton and more stomping. Orton drops the knee on Triple H for another 2 count. Headlock on the mat now by Orton. Triple H fights back but Orton drops him over his knee. Manu comes in, nails Triple H and gets a 2 count. Cody comes in and puts another headlock on Triple H, putting the pressure on. Orton comes back in and tags Triple H down to the mat, continuing to wear him down.

Orton comes in but Triple H drops him. Triple H crawls for the tag to Batista but Cody Rhodes comes in and stops him. Rhodes goes for the bulldog but Triple H catches him and sends him flying. Cody tags in Manu as Batista is tagged in. Batista unloads on Manu and sends Cody and Orton to the floor. Spinebuster by Batista on Manu. Batista goes for a Batista Bomb but he throws Manu into Cody Rhodes who was coming off the top rope. Batista continues to work over Manu and Rhodes but doesn’t see Orton is tagged in. Orton goes for a RKO on Batista but Triple H makes the save. Batista goes for the Bomb again but Cody Rhodes nails Batista while he has Orton in the air. Orton catches Batista in the RKO and gets the pinfall and the win.

Winners: Randy Orton, Manu and Cody Rhodes

– Back from commercial and Lilian brings out Mickie James and Ron Simmons to announce the winner of the DAMN! Moment of 2008. Mickie says there’s one word to describe this category… but he won’t say it. We go through the nominees. The winner is the Khali Kiss Cam. Khali comes out in a suit with Ranjin Singh. Khali says awards a frivolous thing and we shouldn’t be obsessed with material posessions. Khali says it’s more important to focus on the depletion of our natural resources so our children will have a better future. Khali yells and that’s it. He walks back to the podium and goes to kiss Mickie James when Jillian comes out singing. Kung Fu Naki comes out with The Fink and then Jim Duggan and Sgt. Slaughter. They all dance and wave as Jillian sings and Khali scoops up Mickie to kiss her. Ron Simmons gets infront of the mic and yells a big DAMN! as everyone walks off.

R-Truth vs. Dolph Ziggler

Back from commercial and R-Truth is coming through the crowd asking WHAT’S UP? Truth won the Slammy for Best Musical Performance earlier for his entrance. Out next is Truth’s opponent, Dolph Ziggler. The bell rings and Ziggler extends his hand to Truth. Truth does some dance and Ziggler kicks him in the gut. Truth with a big kick kocking Dolph down. Big right by Truth. Ziggler scoops Truth and dumps him on the rope, sending him to the floor.

Back in the ring and Dolph gets a 2 count. Jim Ross and Tazz join the dull commentary. Dolph with some more moves on Truth for another 2 count. Headlock by Dolph. Dolph drops Truth again on the mat. Nothing special in this match. Dolph taunts Truth, telling him his name. Dolph with another side headlock on Truth. Boring chant from the crowd. Truth tries to fight back but Ziggler stops him. Truth slings Dolph into the turnbuckle and goes down. Truth clotheslines Dolph to the floor.

Truth comes over the top rope and knocks heads with Dolph on the floor. The ref counts to 8 as Truth tries to get in the ring. Dolph runs up and kicks him in the head, knocking him back to the mat. Dolph rushes in the ring as the refere counts out R-Truth.

Winner: Dolph Ziggler

After the match, Ziggler takes the mic. Ziggler is bleeding from the mouth and introduces himself as the winner, Dolph Ziggler. We cut to replays.

– Back from commercial and Lilian brings out Stephanie McMahon to introduce the Slammy Award for Superstar of the Year. The nominees are Batista, Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Chris Jericho and John Cena. The Slammy goes to Chris Jericho. Out comes Jericho in a suit.

Jericho goes to speak but just takes his Slammy to the ring, still looking over his shoulder. The crowd gives him hell as he looks on. Jericho says he is ecstatic that no fans can cast their votes for the winners tonight. Jericho rips on the fans. Jericho talks about what he’s done in 2008 and goes on until John Cena’s music hits. The World Champ rushes the ring and chases Jericho off. Edge’s music hits and out comes the WWE Champion.

Edge vs. John Cena

Edge gets his pyro and Lilian Garcia introduces the WWE Champion and the World Heavyweight Champion for tonight’s main event.

Cena and Edge brawl to start the match. Cena with a shoulder and right hands. Cena nails a big bulldog and sends Edge to the floor. Lots of boos to Cena from the crowd. Cena goes to the floor where Edge is at as we go back to commercial.

Back from commercial and Edge has Cena on the mat, working on the neck. Edge puts Cena in the corner and continues to work on the neck. Cena fights back but Edge drops him on his face and gets another 2 count. Edge takes Cena back to the mat to work on the neck. Cena fights back with right hands and nails the blockbuster. Cena runs into a big right by Edge and hits the mat. Edge goes for the spear but Cena blocks it. Big forearm and body drop by Cena. Cena calls for and hits the 5 Knuckle Shuffle. Cena goes for the FU but Edge slides out. Cena goes for it again and Edge counters it again. Cena tries again but Edge turns it into a 2 count. Cena catches Edge in the STFU. Jericho rushes the ring and Cena breaks the hold to meet Jericho on the outside. They brawl as the referee rings the bell. Cena and Jericho fight into the crowd. Triple H rushes the ring and attacks Edge. Jeff Hardy hits the ring and kicks Triple H. Hardy works on Edge now until Triple H kicks him. Triple H throws Hardy to the floor and hits the spinebuster on Edge. Triple H clotheslines Edge to the outside.

Jeff Hardy leaps off the steel steps on the outside and kicks Edge to the floor. Edge stumbles to the back as Triple H looks on from the ring. Jeff Hardy stands in between the two. Triple H’s music hits as we go to replays. Jeff Hardy and Triple H talk trash from a distance to each other as RAW goes off the air.
